Preheating the oven is a crucial step in achieving perfectly baked salmon and asparagus. For this recipe, the ideal temperature is 400°F (200°C). Preheating allows the fish to cook evenly while helping to develop that beautiful caramelization on the asparagus. An adequately heated oven ensures that the salmon cooks through without drying out, while the asparagus remains tender-crisp. Remember, patience pays off—give your oven a good 10 to 15 minutes to reach the desired temperature before placing your dish inside.

Ingredients

4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each)

1 bunch fresh asparagus, trimmed

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon lemon zest

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Lemon slices for garnish

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, minced garlic, oregano, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Marinate the Salmon: Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour about half of the marinade over them. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour in the refrigerator for more flavor.

Prepare the Asparagus: While the salmon is marinating, place the trimmed asparagus on a baking sheet. Drizzle with the remaining marinade and toss until evenly coated.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Create space for the salmon fillets among the asparagus on the baking sheet. You can nestle them in between the asparagus stalks.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork, and the asparagus is tender-crisp.

Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately. Garnish the salmon with lemon slices and a sprinkle of chopped parsley for a fresh touch.

Enjoy: Pair with a side of brown rice or quinoa for a wholesome meal.
