Ingredients

For the Grits:

1 cup stone-ground white or yellow grits

4 cups chicken broth (for more flavor)

1 cup heavy cream (for creamy texture)

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Shrimp:

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

4 slices bacon, chopped

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice preference)

1 cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned)

1/4 cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Salt and black pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Grits: In a medium saucepan, bring the chicken broth to a boil. Slowly whisk in the grits and reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened. Stir in the heavy cream, cheddar cheese, butter, and season with salt and black pepper. Keep warm.

Prepare the Shrimp: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving the bacon fat in the skillet.

Sauté the Shrimp: In the same skillet, add 3 tablespoons of butter to the bacon fat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Then, add the shrimp, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt. Cook until the shrimp turns pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Tomatoes: Stir in the diced tomatoes and cooked bacon, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined and heated through.

Serve: Spoon the creamy grits onto plates or bowls, then top with the shrimp mixture. Garnish with chopped green onions and parsley for a fresh finish.

Enjoy your Ultimate Southern Shrimp and Grits hot, with an extra sprinkle of pepper or a dash of hot sauce if desired!
