Ingredients

4 slices of sourdough bread

4 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced

2 medium tomatoes, ripe and sliced

Fresh basil leaves (about 10-12 leaves)

4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

1 tbsp balsamic glaze (optional, for drizzling)

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp dried oregano

Instructions

Prep the Ingredients:

Start by gathering all your ingredients. Slice the mozzarella and tomatoes if not pre-sliced. Rinse the fresh basil leaves and pat them dry with a paper towel.

      Assemble the Sandwiches:

Take two slices of sourdough bread. On one slice, layer the mozzarella cheese, followed by tomato slices, and then the fresh basil leaves. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried oregano. Top with the second slice of bread.

          Butter the Bread:

Spread 2 tablespoons of softened butter on the outer sides of each sandwich—this will help achieve that golden-brown crust while grilling.

              Grill the Sandwiches:

Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and grill for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden and the cheese starts to melt. Carefully flip the sandwiches and grill the other side for another 3-4 minutes.

                  Add a Flavor Boost (Optional):

If desired, drizzle a bit of balsamic glaze on the inside of the sandwich before closing it, adding a tangy sweetness that complements the tomatoes beautifully.

                      Serve:

Once both sides are perfectly golden and the cheese is gooey, remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Let them cool for a minute before slicing them in half. Serve warm, maybe with a side of tomato soup for dipping!
