Whisking is a crucial step in preparing your Sweet Honey Butter Baked Cornbread. It ensures that your dry ingredients—flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt—are evenly combined. When these ingredients are well mixed, it prevents clumping and ensures a uniform texture throughout the cornbread. A proper whisking technique can also help to aerate the mixture, leading to a lighter, fluffier final product.

Ingredients

1 cup cornmeal

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar added)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1/4 cup honey

1/2 cup sweet corn kernels (frozen or fresh)

Additional honey and butter for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish or cast-iron skillet.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well mixed.

Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and honey. Whisk until fully combined.

Mix Together: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Add Corn: Fold in the sweet corn kernels, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Bake the Cornbread: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish or skillet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Make the Honey Butter: While the cornbread is baking, prepare the honey butter by mixing 1/4 cup of softened butter with 1/4 cup honey in a small bowl until it’s creamy and well combined.

Serve: Once the cornbread is done, let it cool slightly. Cut into squares and serve warm with the sweet honey butter spread on top.
