Ingredients

4 cups apple pie filling (canned or homemade)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), melted

1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup old-fashioned oats (optional for added texture)

Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Prepare the Apple Layer: In a large bowl, combine the apple pie filling with the ground cinnamon and vanilla extract. Stir until the apples are evenly coated with the cinnamon. Pour the mixture into the bottom of the greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Add the Sugar Layer: Sprinkle the brown sugar over the top of the apple mixture, ensuring it covers the apples evenly.

Cake Mix Time: Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the brown sugar layer. Do not mix it; just let the cake mix sit on top.

Butter It Up: Drizzle the melted butter over the entire top layer of the cake mix. Make sure to cover as much area as possible. This will help create a delicious, buttery crust while baking.

Optional Additions: If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts and the old-fashioned oats on top of the buttered cake mix layer. This adds a wonderful crunch and texture to the dump cake.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly. The apples should be hot and the cake mix should have formed a delicious crust.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 10-15 minutes. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
