Ingredients

1 sheet of frozen puff pastry, thawed

6 oz sliced ham (preferably honey or smoked)

6 oz Swiss cheese, shredded or thinly sliced

1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1 tbsp Dijon mustard

1 tbsp green onions, finely chopped (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Sesame seeds or poppy seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 1/8 inch thick.

Spread the Mustard: Evenly spread the Dijon mustard over the surface of the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.

Layer the Ingredients: Lay the slices of ham evenly over the mustard, followed by the shredded or sliced Swiss cheese. If using, sprinkle the finely chopped green onions for added flavor. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

Cut the Pastry: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the puff pastry into strips (about 1 inch wide).

Twist and Shape: Take each strip and gently twist it a few times to create a spiral effect. Place the twisted strips on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the twists with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden color when baked.

Sprinkle Toppings: If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top for an extra crunch.

Bake the Twists: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the twists are puffed and golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Remove the twists from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm and enjoy!
