Ingredients

3 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Sea salt flakes, for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter. Stir until well combined.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until everything is well mixed.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking soda, baking powder, salt, and flour. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: If you're using chocolate chips, gently fold them into the batter until evenly distributed.

Add Caramel Swirl: Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the batter. Use a knife to gently swirl the caramel throughout the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top, and then repeat the caramel drizzle and swirl on the top layer.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Slice: Once baked, remove from the oven and let the bars cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Use the parchment overhang to lift the bars out of the pan and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Add Final Touches: Once cool, drizzle additional caramel sauce on top and sprinkle with sea salt flakes for that sweet and salty finish.

Serve: Cut into squares and serve. These bars can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature!
