Pralines have a storied history that dates back to the early 17th century in France. The term "praline" is believed to have originated from the name of a French diplomat, César de Plessis-Praslin, who is often credited with creating the first pralines. These early pralines were made from almonds coated in caramelized sugar, setting the stage for the evolution of this delightful treat.

Ingredients

1 cup pecans, chopped

1 cup almonds, chopped

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup light corn syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

2 cups puffed rice cereal

1 cup mini dark chocolate chips

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

Preparation: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Make the Praline Mixture: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, and sea salt. Stir continuously until the mixture begins to boil. Allow it to boil for an additional 3-4 minutes without stirring until it turns a deep amber color.

Add Flavor: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and cinnamon, if using.

Mix in Nuts and Cereal: In a large bowl, combine the chopped pecans, almonds, and puffed rice cereal. Pour the hot praline mixture over the dry ingredients and stir well until everything is evenly coated.

Spread on Baking Sheet: Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking sheet, spreading it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Cool and Add Chocolate: Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Before it fully sets, sprinkle mini dark chocolate chips over the top. Allow to cool completely until hardened.

Break Apart and Serve: Once cooled, break the praline crunch into bite-sized pieces and store in an airtight container.
