Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup whole milk

1 large egg

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Maple Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

3 tablespoons maple syrup

1-2 tablespoons whole milk (as needed for consistency)

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Prepare the Donut Holes:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg until well combined.

      Mix Wet Ingredients:

In another bowl, combine the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk them together until you achieve a smooth mixture.

          Combine Ingredients:

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

              Heat the Oil:

In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a deep-frying thermometer to ensure precise temperature.

                  Shape and Fry:

Using a small cookie scoop or your hands, scoop out about 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball. Carefully drop the donut holes into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

                      Drain:

Once fried, use a slotted spoon to remove the donut holes from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

                          Prepare the Maple Glaze:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add whole milk until a smooth, pourable consistency is reached.

                              Glaze the Donut Holes:

While the donut holes are still warm, dip the tops into the maple glaze or drizzle the glaze over them using a spoon. Let the glaze set for a couple of minutes.

                                  Serve and Enjoy:

Serve the maple glazed donut holes warm or at room temperature and enjoy a delightful burst of flavor!
