Ingredients

1 cup almond flour

1/4 cup cocoa powder

1/2 cup vanilla protein powder (preferably plant-based)

1/4 cup coconut sugar or your choice of sweetener

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

2 large eggs

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup almond milk (or any plant milk)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with coconut oil or spray.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the almond flour, cocoa powder, protein powder, coconut sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until evenly blended.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, applesauce, almond milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. If using, gently fold in the dark chocolate chips.

Fill the Donut Pan: Spoon the batter into the greased donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full. Use a piping bag or a ziplock bag with the corner cut off for easy filling.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean.

Cool and Remove: Once baked, let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes. Then carefully remove them from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decorate (Optional): Once cooled, drizzle with a little melted dark chocolate or top with your favorite nut butter for an extra indulgent treat!

Enjoy your healthy chocolate protein donuts!
