Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup diced ham (preferably cooked and smoked)

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Add Cheese and Ham: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham until evenly distributed.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk with the melted butter. Stir well.

Combine Mixtures: Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Prepare the Baking Dish: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, pour the remaining half of the melted butter to create a butter pool for the biscuits to swim in.

Scoop the Batter: Use a large spoon or ice cream scoop to drop spoonfuls of the biscuit batter directly into the butter pool, spacing them out evenly.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Garnish: If desired, sprinkle the tops with chopped fresh chives immediately after removing from oven for a burst of color and flavor.

Serve: Allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving. They are best enjoyed warm, straight from the oven.
