Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup diced ham (fully cooked)

3/4 cup whole milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional, for added flavor)

Extra melted butter for brushing on top

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 450°F (230°C). Prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by greasing it lightly or lining it with parchment paper.

Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper until well combined.

Add Cheese and Ham: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham until they are evenly distributed throughout the dry mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the milk and melted butter. If you’re using dried thyme, add it to this mixture.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and fold gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if there are a few lumps.

Prepare for Baking: Pour melted butter into the greased baking dish. Then, scoop dollops of the biscuit batter into the dish. The batter will spread out, but that’s what creates the swim effect!

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15–20 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Finishing Touch: As soon as they come out of the oven, brush the tops with additional melted butter for extra flavor and a gorgeous shine.

Serve and Enjoy: Allow to cool for a few minutes in the pan then cut into squares. Serve warm as a delightful breakfast, snack, or side dish.
