Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 large egg, lightly beaten

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

Salt and pepper to taste

Olive oil for cooking

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

1 cup Greek yogurt

1/2 cucumber, grated and drained

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Salt to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Tzatziki Sauce: In a bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, chopped dill, olive oil, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Mix well and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.

Make the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, minced garlic, chopped onion, beaten egg, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; don’t overmix to keep meatballs tender.

Shape the Meatballs: Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, placing them on a lined baking sheet as you go.

Cook the Meatballs: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Once hot, carefully add the meatballs (in batches if necessary). Cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, turning until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should read 165°F). You can also bake them in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes.

Serve: Arrange the cooked meatballs on a platter and serve with the chilled tzatziki sauce on the side. Drizzle extra olive oil over the meatballs and garnish with fresh herbs and lemon wedges if desired.

Enjoy: These meatballs are fantastic served on their own, in a pita, or with a side of rice or salad!
