Ingredients

6 slices of thick-cut brioche or challah bread

3 large eggs

1/2 cup whole milk

1/4 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 cup of crushed cornflakes or panko breadcrumbs (for added crunch)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Fresh berries (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Prepare the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt until smooth.

Slice the Bread: Cut each slice of brioche or challah bread into 3 equal sticks, making sure they are all uniform in size for even cooking.

Coat the Bread Sticks: Dip each bread stick into the custard mixture, allowing them to soak for about 15-20 seconds on each side. Ensure they are well-coated but not overly soggy.

Prepare for Baking: Set the soaked sticks on a plate. In a separate shallow dish, mix crushed cornflakes or panko breadcrumbs with melted butter until the crumbs are evenly coated.

Crumb Coating: Roll each soaked bread stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to make sure they stick well. Place the coated sticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.

Bake the French Toast Sticks: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and crispy on the outside. Flip halfway through cooking to ensure even browning.

Serve Warm: Once baked, remove the sticks from the oven and let them cool for a minute. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with warm maple syrup and fresh berries, if desired.

Enjoy your delicious Golden Baked French Toast Sticks for breakfast or as a sweet treat anytime! Perfect for dipping and sharing.
