Ingredients

1 loaf (about 14-16 oz) of cinnamon raisin bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup raisins (optional, for extra texture)

1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Maple syrup, for serving

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Place the cubes of cinnamon raisin bread evenly in the dish.

Mix the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined. If you’re adding raisins and nuts, fold them into the custard mixture.

Combine Bread and Custard: Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes in the baking dish. Gently press down on the bread to ensure that all cubes are soaked in the custard.

Chill: Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight) to allow the bread to absorb the custard.

Bake: Once ready to bake, remove the cover and place the dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set (it may still be slightly jiggly but will firm up as it cools).

Cool and Serve: Allow the bake to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing into portions. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar if desired, and drizzled with maple syrup.

Enjoy: Gather your loved ones around the table and indulge in this delicious Cinnamon Raisin French Toast Bake!
