Ingredients

1 lb (450g) pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

8 oz (225g) sharp cheddar cheese, cut into cubes

8 slices of cooked bacon, chopped

1/4 cup (60ml) cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup (60ml) sour cream

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

1 tbsp baking soda

1 large egg (for egg wash)

Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cheddar cheese cubes, chopped bacon, cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Stir until well mixed and set aside.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Dough: If you're using store-bought pizza dough, roll it out on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 1/4 inch thick. Cut the dough into 3-inch squares.

Assemble the Pretzel Bombs: Place about 1 tablespoon of the cheese and bacon filling in the center of each dough square. Carefully fold the corners of the dough over the filling to create a bomb shape, pinching the edges securely to seal.

Create the Pretzel Coating: In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the baking soda (be careful, it will bubble up). Gently drop a few pretzel bombs into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the Pretzel Bombs: In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the pretzel bombs. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Allow the pretzel bombs to cool slightly before serving. They are best enjoyed warm, so serve them with your favorite dipping sauces like mustard, cheese sauce, or ranch dressing.
