1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup soft caramel candies, unwrapped (about 12-15 pieces)

1/4 cup heavy cream

1/2 teaspoon sea salt (optional, for sprinkling)

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang to easily lift the bars out later.

    Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the sugar until well combined. Let cool for about 5 minutes.

      Mix Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs to the cooled butter mixture, one at a time, stirring well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

        Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Fold in the chocolate chips for an extra chocolatey bite.

          Prepare the Caramel Swirl: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel candies and heavy cream. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the caramels are fully melted and smooth. If using, stir in the sea salt.
