Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 10 cups)

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

¾ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup maple syrup (for drizzle)

Powdered sugar (for garnish)

Fresh berries (strawberries or blueberries, optional for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Combine Bread Cubes: In a large bowl, add the bread cubes and set aside while you prepare the custard.

Mix the Custard: In another large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine Bread and Custard: Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes. Gently fold the bread into the liquid until all pieces are evenly coated. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes so the bread can absorb the custard.

Bake the Casserole: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. A knife inserted in the center should come out clean.

Prepare Maple Drizzle: While the casserole is baking, combine the maple syrup with a splash of water in a small saucepan. Heat over low until warmed, stirring occasionally.

Serve: Once the casserole is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Drizzle the warm maple syrup over the top. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with fresh berries if desired.
