Ingredients

12 cannelloni tubes

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg

2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking for another 2–3 minutes until softened.

Mix the Filling: Remove the skillet from the heat. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture with ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and the egg. Season with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully combined.

Stuff the Cannelloni: Using a small spoon or a piping bag, carefully fill each cannelloni tube with the beef and cheese mixture. Place the filled tubes in a baking dish.

Add Sauce: Pour half of the marinara sauce over the filled cannelloni, ensuring they are well-coated. Pour the remaining sauce on top.

Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the top of the sauce.

Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to prevent the cannelloni from drying out. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serve: Let the cannelloni cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
