Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon salt

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsweetened applesauce

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup milk (or plant-based alternative)

1 ½ cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples, preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

½ cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Optional: extra cinnamon sugar (1 tablespoon sugar + ½ teaspoon cinnamon mixed) for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and granulated sugar until evenly combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the applesauce, egg, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, and gently fold until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!

Add Apples: Gently fold in the diced apples until they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Shape Fritters: Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet. Leave enough space between each fritter as they will expand while baking.

Bake: Bake for 15-18 minutes, until the fritters are golden brown and cooked through.

Make the Glaze: While the fritters are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth.

Cool and Coat: Once baked, let the fritters cool for about 5 minutes. Drizzle or dip them into the glaze while still warm. If desired, sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mix for an extra touch of flavor.

Serve: Enjoy your Heavenly Baked Apple Fritters warm as a delightful breakfast treat or an indulgent snack!
