Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

2-3 Thai bird's eye chilies, finely chopped (adjust based on heat preference)

1 red bell pepper, sliced

1 cup green beans, trimmed and cut into bite-sized pieces

1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thickening)

Steamed jasmine rice, for serving

Instructions

Preparation of Ingredients: Begin by slicing the flank steak against the grain into thin strips. Gather and measure out all other ingredients for easy access during cooking.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

Cook the Beef: Add the sliced beef to the hot skillet, spreading it out evenly. Let it sear for about 2-3 minutes without stirring to develop a nice brown crust. Then, stir-fry the beef for another 2-3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

Sauté Aromatics and Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and chopped chilies. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, then add the sliced red bell pepper and green beans. Stir-fry the vegetables for 2-3 minutes until they're vibrant and just tender.

Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar. Stir everything together until the beef and vegetables are well-coated.

Thicken the Sauce (Optional): If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook for an additional minute until the sauce has thickened slightly.

Add Thai Basil: Remove the skillet from the heat and fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves. Stir until the basil wilts and is well-distributed throughout the stir-fry.

Serve: Spoon the Aromatic Thai Basil Beef Stir Fry over steamed jasmine rice and enjoy your delightful meal!
