Ingredients

1 pound chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces

1 cup dill pickle juice

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for a kick)

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred for extra crunch)

Olive oil spray

Instructions

Marinate the Chicken:

In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with dill pickle juice and soak for at least 30 minutes (up to overnight in the fridge for deeper flavor). This step is key to achieving that signature tender texture.

      Prepare the Buttermilk Coating:

After marinating, drain the chicken and rinse off the pickle juice. In a separate bowl, pour in the buttermilk, adding the chicken pieces and allowing them to soak for another 10-15 minutes.

          Mix the Dry Ingredients:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).

              Coat the Chicken:

Remove each piece of chicken from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge the chicken pieces in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring they are well-coated. Next, dip them back into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip, and then coat them in breadcrumbs.

                  Preheat the Air Fryer:

Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

                      Air Fry the Nuggets:

Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the coated chicken nuggets in a single layer in the basket, making sure they don’t touch. Spray the tops lightly with olive oil.

                          Cook:

Air fry the chicken nuggets for 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time and spraying with more olive oil if desired, until they are golden brown and crispy.

                              Serve:

Serve the chicken nuggets hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as honey mustard or BBQ sauce. Enjoy your homemade Chick-Fil-A style nuggets!
